Book Tag: TBR

Hi everyone! I hope that you’re all having a good Monday so far.

Today I’m going to do the TBR book tag. I saw it on Jaz’s blog, Rantings of a Curse Breaker and decided to give it a go.

I thought that it would be a good topic for my first book tag because I definitely have a bit of a TBR problem. Is it just me, or does there always seem to be way too many books and never enough time? Haha.

Not only do I have a very busy three year old, but to top it off, I’m a bit of a slow reader. I have a habit of pausing while I read to think about the story or characters; and if I like a scene, I’ll read it more than once. I also love discovering new books, so suffice it to say that  my TBR pile grows way faster than I can knock books off of it.
Okay, so here we go…

1. How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

For a long time, I just added books to my “want to read” list on Goodreads or just kept track of them in my head. However, after joining Bookstagram I began seeing everyone’s lovely TBR jars. I thought that they were adorable, and also a good idea since a lot of my time was spent trying to decide what to read, rather than actually reading.

Much to my dismay, I’m not very crafty. So, after a few hours–most of which was spent watching YouTube tutorials on how to make paper stars and failing miserably–I ended up with my TBR jar pictured above.

2. Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?

Right now all of the books in my TBR pile are print books. I used to have a Kobo and used it quite a bit because it was nice to be able to read buy and read a book instantly.

Now however, book shopping/collecting is one of my fiancé’s and my favourite things to do. We have A LOT of books. My grandmother is always politely suggesting that we get rid of some because she doesn’t think anyone needs as many as we have. Haha.

3. How do you determine which book from your TBR pile to read next?

I try to utilize my TBR jar. Although lately I’ve been influenced by posts I see on Bookstagram or blogs, and buying those books instead of putting a dent in my TBR. Oops!

For example, I’m currently reading the Throne of Glass series because everyone on Bookstagram was raving about it.

4. A book that has been on your TBR the longest?

I am quite ashamed to admit that I have not read The Lord of the Rings in its entirety yet. I’ve wanted to get it under my belt since high school (which is a decade ago now…yikes!) And I even studied The Fellowship of the Ring in university. However for one reason or another, I’ve yet to finish it.

To make matters worse it just so happens that it is my fiancé’s all time favourite book. He practically worships Tolkien. Just look at how many copies we have! Clearly I have no excuse.

5. A book that you have recently added to your TBR? And 6. A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

Thanks to all the lovely photos and positive opinions on Bookstagram, I really want to read The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh.

I love retellings and historical settings, so it’s definitely right up my alley. Also I know the sequel comes out tomorrow, so I’m late coming to the party. I’m really looking forward to it.  I just haven’t been able to get my hands on a copy. For the longest time they didn’t have any at the bookstore, and then they finally got the new paperback, but I want the hardcover because it’s SO pretty!

7. A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

I don’t think there’s any book that’s on my TBR strictly for the cover. However, that being said, I’ve always been drawn to the cover of The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. I love how it seems like you can reach out and touch the woman’s hat, and I find myself wondering what she looks like. The story sounds very interesting too.

8. A book on your TBR that you never plan to read?

Naturally, I want to read each and every book on my TBR. Hence, why they’re on it in the first place. Haha. Although, that being said, I know that I probably won’t have time to get to them all. Unless of course I develop some kind of reading superpower. 😋

9. An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

This one was easy to answer. I am beyond excited for A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. I read A Court of Thorns and Roses a few months ago and loved it. Only a week to go! This one is going to be my next read for sure.

10. A book on your TBR that everyone has read but you?

I am WAY behind when it comes to this series. People talk about it so much! Sometimes it feels like I’m the only one who hasn’t read it yet, especially with the new tv series. The funny thing is that I already own Lady Midnight because it was such a good price. So I guess I better catch up soon.

11. A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

Every time I ask people on Bookstagram what book I should read, they always say The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.  I found it at the used bookstore a while back and keep meaning to read it. I’ve never read a book about aliens before, so it should be interesting. I’d like to read it before seeing the movie too.

12. How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

There are currently 106 books on my Goodreads “to read” shelf. And there are also others in my TBR jar that I should add to the list. Like I said, a definite TBR problem. Haha.

Well, that’s basically it for the TBR book tag. Are any of the books I mentioned on your TBR too? Or any that you’ve read and recommend?

Also, I’m not going to tag anyone since I’m new and don’t know who’s done this already, but feel free to do it if you’d like.

I hope you enjoyed my post. Thanks for stopping by,

Liss

    1. Thanks! And I’m glad I’m not alone in being a slow reader. My fiancé reads so fast, it’s insane. He can read way more books than me, but if I try and speed up I don’t enjoy it as much. And yes, I just followed you back on Bookstagram. I can’t wait to check out your pictures. 🙂

      1. No worries, I make mistakes sometimes too. Each time I write “hello” my phone changes it to “hellooooo” lol. And if I don’t catch it people think that I’m very enthusiastic or something. Haha. 🙂

  1. Hi! I know you already have many books to read, but I 100% recommend the Tigers Curse series by Coleen Houck. I know it sounds a little strange haha It is my favorite series!

    1. It’s so funny that you’re recommending this book today. I just found it at the used bookstore yesterday. I’m glad to hear that you loved it, because I saw quite a few unfavourable reviews on goodreads. I’m looking forward to giving it a try. 🙂
